Triple X Syndrome Report

The name of this disorder is Triple X Syndrome, also known as Trisomy X, Triplo X Syndrome, or 47,XXX. The main cause of this disorder is nondisjunction. The mother's egg cell or the father's sperm cell isn't formed correctly. Obviously those with this disorder are female, and some females will develop the mosaic form of the disorder, where it doesn't appear until early development of the embryo and it only exists in some cells. Girls with the mosaic form will suffer less severe symptoms. The disorder can be called 47,XXX for the existence of an extra chromosome and the other names basically come from the fact that there are three X chromosomes. Symptoms and signs include tall stature, epicanthal folds of the eyes, delayed development of speech and language skills, weak muscle tone, curved pinky fingers, behavior and mental health problems, premature ovarian failure or ovary abnormalities, and constipation or abdominal pains. Girls diagnosed with Triple X go through counseling just like any other person with a disability and the counseling will provide motivation to use daily skills in life. Girls will go through screenings throughout childhood to detect early development problems. Girls with Triple X can live a normal life, but they need a supportive environment because they go through a lot of stress. There is no cure to the disorder because the cells with the extra chromosome can't be repaired. A support group for Triple X is the Knowledge and Support Action, which offers advice and support on living with the disorder. Doctors can also recommend support groups and ways to live with the disorder. Another group is the National Center for Learning Disabilities, which is very helpful if learning disabilities develop.
